2.5D: The 3DS remake of the game uses polygon graphics instead of pixel art, without changing the side-scrolling gameplay in any way.Pixel has gone on to create Kero Blaster, which can be seen as a Spiritual Successor. In December 2021 ( and ONLY for the holidays), Nicalis, without any input from Pixel, released a Christmas Episode spin-off Stealth-Based Game entitled Cave Story's Secret Santa. It's ( unsurprisingly) been given a 2❝ overhaul, but otherwise is identical. This version was then brought to DSiWare, Steam, the 3DS eShop, and Nintendo Switch, with each version stacking on extra modes, levels, soundtracks, and tweaks along the way - the Nintendo Switch version in particular adds full widescreen support and Co-Op Multiplayer. The translator has given permission to host the files here. The program, OrgMaker, which was used to create the music of Cave Story is currently being translated into English as well.

A translation patch for the OrganyaView program can be found in Cave Story's English patch located in the downloads page. The OrgView program can be found towards the bottom of this page. Pixel included a program called OrganyaView which allows you to play any of the tracks of the game.
